A yard sailing we will go

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Life. Sadly it gets in the way of blogging. The husband and I have been dealing with some issues at our rental plus, I have been madly looking for a job, so I have been a bit busy. BUT, not too busy to go to yard sales! My sister just had her first baby so my mom, sister, baby Turner and I set off for Glen Carbon for their annual neighborhood yard sale to find some great deals on baby items. She did find some good baby things, but that is not what I am posting about. I found some pretty amazing random finds. Like...

Harry Potter Bookends for $6.00

Also, I have been looking for an electric chopper. I tried to make a chicken recipe that required Ritz crackers that were crushed. Well....I thought it would be okay to use two paper plates and a potato masher and the 8 of you that read this can figure out how well that turned out. I came across these two appliances that were marked at 10.00 each.

I bargained and got them for 5.00 each! I googled the original prices and the Kitchen Aide runs for 36.00 and the Crock Pot is only 24.99 brand new. Not too shabby and I have already used both of them and they work great! And last but not least, my favorite purchase of the day:

Now that I have the glasses, I think that means that I need to go back to The Wizarding World. Any vacation would be nice right now...oh wait. That might be happening soon. I'll let Ari post about it due to the fact that it's her dream coming true. :)

Last Post Continued

Sunday, April 22, 2012

In my last post where I found the amazing Francesca's dress, I told you that I went in to look for Cardinals shirts for kids at school. We were taking the safety patrols on a field trip and most of them had never been to a game, let alone own Cardinals shirts. As a huge Cardinals fan, I couldn't let any kid go to a game without STL gear, so I made it my mission to find everyone a shirt. I didn't want to spend more than $20 and I needed to buy about 10 shirts. Here is what I  came up with!

With the exception of the rally squirrel shirt, I found all of these at Salvation Army for less than $1 each. The rally squirrel I found at Hibbet Sports for around $4. I also purchased a couple more from Hibbet, but I didn't photograph them before I gave them away.

Everyone except me! I was taking the picture.

Sweet girls.

Everyone had a blast and looked adorable! The Cards lost 5-3, but the kids got to see a home run and fireworks. I think most of them thought we won whenever they saw the fireworks. Ooops.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

P.S. Shout out to Gina and Ramonda for pitching in on the shirts!

I Can't Believe I Found This Stuff!

Friday, April 20, 2012

Most of you who are reading this probably already know about the insane dress I found at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Can you believe this dress? It was hanging at the front of the store and I could not believe my eyes. The dress came from Francesca's Collection and was marked at $54! I wasn't even planning on going into the thrift store that day, but I'm so glad I did! I went in to look for Cardinals shirts for kids at school. But more on that later. Now, Francesca's is fairly new to the area, and I have yet to make a purchase from there. I have been in there a few times and their stuff is super cute, but it's a little pricey for me. I can't wait to wear it this summer!

Next, we have this super cute owl vase that I found for $2.50. Owls are super trendy and I'm starting to get a little sick of them. But this was too adorable and fits perfectly on my coffee table. If any of you out there are into the owl trend, the Granite City Salvation Army had TONS of little owl knick knacks in their house section. Some of them had weird colors and textures, but a little spray paint could fix those in a snap!

I was going to show you all of the Cardinals shirts I found, but the uploader won't let me post them. I guess those pics will have to wait.
I hope the 7 of you are enjoying reading this, and please share it if you think other people will like it too. Thanks everybody.

P.S. Let us know if you have questions about thrifting. We would love to answer them!

Cute Title

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Hello out there to the 5 people who read this! This will be a short post because I can only think about 3 things at the moment.

1. Glee is back!
2. The Blues playoffs start Thursday!
3. Opening Day is Friday!

I didn't make it to Goodwill this weekend so I ran in today before I had to work. I'm sure everyone who reads this knows me, but incase you don't, I am a teacher. Sometimes. I was a 2nd grade teacher, got laid off, rehired as the reading specialist, and got laid off again. I just finished filling a maternity leave for about 3 months and I teach 3rd grade in the after school program. I also sub, but if I don't get called I have lots of time to shop during the day. I also work part time for Radio Disney, but let's get back to my finds.

Ta daaaaaaa............

I scored these cute Mossimo wedges brand new for $4.99. The GC Goodwill actually had a lot of sandals, so if you get the chance stop by! Since all of you are asking, the color on my toes is part of The Hunger Games "Capitol Colors" line. It's China Glaze and is called "Riveting". It represents District 3 for all of you Hunger Games freaks out there. And it cost more than the shoes. Oooops. I guess it's a good thing that I do a lot of thrifting. I hope this post wasn't annoying.

Game of Thrones is On.......

Sunday, April 1, 2012

And I have no idea what is going on in this show. So I guess I will update the blog. I don't mind sitting down to write the posts, but I really hate taking pictures and uploading them to my computer. I've been thrifting lots of times since my last post, but I don't feel like taking pictures, and I don't like writing posts without pictures, so I just don't post anything. Or I am too busy watching The Hunger Games or painting my nails. I should win blogger of the year. But since Game of Thrones is on and I'm too lazy to go to the store, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to fill you in on what I have been finding.

First up is one of my favorite deals that you can get at any time. I got this Eric Carle book and plush from Kohl's. It's part of their Kohl's Cares charity and you can get the hard cover book and plush bear for $5 each. I always think this is a steal because this book would normally be at least $15. If you have never hear of this deal, the books and plushes are always near the registers and they usually have 4 selections from the same author. As you can see, the current author is Eric Carle. I'm not sure how often they change their selections, but I feel like there are different books every time I go. I have bought these countless times for birthdays, baby showers, and for my fellow teachers.

*Because the proceeds of these items go to charity, you cannot use coupons or Kohl's Cash to purchase them. I learned that the hard way.*

Next, are two more items I found this weekend. I got a $10 coupon to Kohl's in the mail and I wanted to use it before expired today. NEVER go to Kohl's without coupons. They had tons of cute spring items and I loved this top when I saw it. I grabbed it quickly because Kohl's can suck me in and I didn't want to be there forever. It was a Candie's top and was marked $38. It was half off which made it $19, and with my coupon I got it for $9. Holler! The shorts that I smartly covered with the top, I purchased brand new with tags at Goodwill for $4. This brings the grand total of my outfit to about $13. How about that for some mental math?

So there ya have it folks. I hope you are all getting some great deals in your hood. Also, share our blog if you think it is helpful. If you want to. It's not that serious.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
